No coyote...
Posted By: Tom Lusk, 01-26-2008, 10:39 AM

I tried calling in a coyote I saw this morning, but he never got within camera range. I've been waiting all winter for a crack at one. Had to settle for this cardinal:

I'd hardly call that settling for anything at all. Great photo.

I have a thought; try calling a Cardinal, see if a coyote shows up.

I went moose hunting years ago and tried my hand at calling. Believe it or not, I called in a pack of wolves! They were probably looking for the sick or dying moose in the swamp, but it just me. I suck at imitating wild animal calls.

Absolutely stunning image of a beautiful bird - thanks Tom!

Tom, let me see if I have this straight. The predator call you use mimics a wounded/dying rabbit, right? And you are good enough with it to catch that wonderful fox shot and those mink shots, right? So one would assume that it sounds pretty realistic, no? So you use the call and this Cardinal shows up. Now I ask you, would a normal Cardinal be attracted to a wounded/dying rabbit? I DON'T THINK SO! Therefore...this Cardinal AIN'T NORMAL!!! Methinks there is a somewhat maniacal gleam in his eye. And what's that hanging from his beak? Could very well be shreds of flesh! I think what you've captured here is the first known image of the infamous "Killer Cardinal of Canada"!!! That is a very dangerous beastie! Be very careful!

Lol Salty, I don't think our Canadian friends talk about their Killer Cardinals in the general public, bad for their tourism, thank you, Tom, for giving us a heads up in such a discreet manner:-).
Fabulous picture of my favorite bird!

Son-of-a-biscuit, that is the most fantastical picture of a bird I've ever seen, I can't stop looking at it.

Tom
I just had to comment on this photo. OUTSTANDING! Great pose, sharp as a tack with excellent detail-- I am jealous. I have not been getting anything a my feeders but sparrows, and they are not very pretty. Great work.
