From a late evening walk, taken in the last sunlight of the day.
This is a monument for the dead of The Boer War, erected on one of the highest points in the Chiltern Hills, 850 feet above sea level. It was built in 1904, destroyed by lightning and rebuilt in 1938. If you look carefully at the left-hand side, you can make out the lightning conductor prudently added to prevent a repeat occurrence.
I exposed for the sky (which pretty much gave me a silhouette) and then lifted the detail out of the shadows.
