Camera: Pentax ME Super Photo Location: Scotland
Posted By: GeoJerry, 08-02-2012, 02:06 PM

My son just came in and told me I should post this one (it apparently just popped up on our digital frame loaded with about 1500 pictures). It has historical interest (to me anyway), taken almost 30 years ago with my first camera, the venerable ME Super, somewhere about 20 miles west of Aberdeen, Scotland. The yellow flowers are from the rape plant, a member of the mustard family. The seeds are used to make vegetable oil.

This image was scanned from the original slide at a fairly low resolution.

A beautiful shot from sunny Scotland! The pattern of the rapeseed fields and the curving horizon give this a storybook feel.

Great pic, we call it canola, first time I ever saw it was at dawn and I came over a hill and thought I had flashed back to the 60's it was so psychadelic.

Thanks guys, wishing I had my current gear when I took this one, sometime in 1985 I think. This is a pretty low tech picture. I think I'll try to scan the slide again at a much higher resolution.

Not only did I get a look at lovely fields of yellow this morning I learned a bit about rapeseed. We lived in England for several years back in the 70's and I remember those fields. I never knew that rapeseed and canola were the same thing. Old though it is, it is a beautiful shot and I thank you for sharing it and for the memories it brought back.

Thanks... good memories for me as well. We lived in Aberdeen for two years back in the 1980's.
