Curlew
Camera: Canon S3 IS Photo Location: Monterey

Taking a new look at older pictures, through the eye of new software. This curlew was hanging around at the Monterey Aquarium.

Looks like a mug shot! But a nice detailed look at the attractive plumage of this bird.

Is that a captive or a wild bird? If it is wild and if you can read all the numbers/letters on the coloured leg band (and the colour) you can send the information to the US Fish and Wildlife Service Bird Banding Labratory to supplement their database. They will tell you where and when the bird was banded.

To be honest.... I don't remember! It was taken about 3 years ago. I'm assuming it was outside the Monterey Aquarium somewhere as I don't remember that they had any captive birds.
