Outdoor car show shots.
Posted By: blwnhr, 01-28-2008, 02:30 AM

Last weekend was a 1-day show & shine run by a car club my father and I are involved with. It started being concentrated towards American vehicles (remember I'm in Australia), but now it is open to any kind of car. These include everything from '30s hot rods to muscle cars and Japanese imports.

All shot with K10D, 18-125 Sigma, in-camera JPEG and PP in PS CS2.

Enjoy.

This shot would have been great with a bit more DOF.

Cheers for the comments guys.

No girls, this is a family show. Wait a few weeks, got some of those coming up.

All the shots from this show are up in my gallery: USA Day 2008

Great shots, and #2 is a real winner. I'm a car guy (who grew up in the Muscle Car era); I'm curious: what is the yellow car SL/R in #5? It looks familiar yet not a car I can specifically remember being here in the States.

That is a Holden (GM's Australian arm) Torana. It was the mid-sized car of the era. To make them into a performance car they fitted them with a 5.0L V8 (of Holdens own design) hence the 5000 in SL/R 5000. They were exclusive to Australia. Arguably the best known specific model name in the country, impressive considering they haven't been produced for 30 years.

I thought two and three were particularly nice. The DOF in two is perfect in my opinion.

Ahh, thanks, now I understand why it looked familiar yet "foreign" at the same time. The styling reminds me of the Chevy Nova of the same era, but it's clearly not the same car. I'd love to come to Australia for a million reasons, but if I ever get there I want to talk to the sailors and to the car guys.

BTW, I understand the new Camaro will be based on a Holden chassis; I owned three Camaros ('71, '75, and '82), and it'll be fun to see what they do with the new one.

Thanks Tom, I really like that one too. Sort of a contrast between old and new.

Jer, the Holden chassis they will be basing it on will be from the VE Commodore. I've driven a few VE's and they are fantastic, all the motoring journals describe the handling and general dynamics as equal to anything from Mercedes-Benz or BMW. Should mean the Camaro will be a ripper. Personally I'll take a '69 Camaro over the new one.

Nice indeed ... gotta love some of the older muscle.

I managed to get a few from the recent Australia Day festivities I went along to ... nowhere near as nice as your shots though.

Seriously cool. I love the 2nd shot the best. Really nice to be in a car show.

I was in bright for a car show last year and it was really fun to shoot around these cars.

Great series. The 18-125 goes pretty well on the K10. Almost as well as the Torana did with that 5 litre shoe horned in there. They were an awesome thing, pity they weren't as good as the Fords though.....

.......a brief pause here for our non-Australian readers to explain that you are about to see an Australian civil war blow up in front of you........

The Holden / Ford rivalry is probably akin to the USA Chev?Ford fun.

Hee hee.

Another Ford fan here as well ... was a good thing winning Bathurst 1-2-3 this year as well.

But really ... I am fan of anything automotive (that is within good taste really).
I really do love the bikes here ... and that RX7 shot in NOICE.

Waiting for DV to jump on blwnhr's side
