Went with the family to the first parade of the Galveston, TX. Mardi Gras season. Had a great time taking pictures until the batteries died.

Seagulls bathing in a puddle. This is one of my favorites. I'm very pleased with the results.

Other parade revelers.

There is nothing photographically special about the last two. They seem to show how much fun the event was.

actualy i think this is very photographicaly special, not technical, but one of a kind and good composition + colours

Looks like fun. We've lived in the area for 12 years, but never been to Galveston for the Marke Gras.

Heh, I meant to go down there on saturday...I think we're going to wait for the big parade this saturday evening. Always a good time.

I'm sure it would be fun for photo opportunities, but you couldn't drag me down to that island this weekend. This was the first time I've been on the island for any part of Mardi Gras sine we moved from there almost 10 years ago.

Fun shots. OK I don't get the reference, "beads"? I'll probably look like an idiot in a few minutes.
Looks like the "old broads" sign was popular and got passed around.

During the Mardi Gras Parades, both Galveston and New Orleans (the original) they throw beaded necklaces, usually made of plastic, from the floats. During the night parades beads are thrown from floats and the balconies of the buildings along the parade route and ladies are encouraged to expose parts of their anatomy for some of the "fancier" beads. With the amount of liquid refreshments that are consumed its usually not much of a challenge.

I don't know the tradition or history of the beads.
