A leaf and a lily
Lens: Tamron 90 2.8 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Garden
Posted By: tessfully, 08-09-2012, 05:15 AM

After viewing so many creative shots today I am thinking twice about posting these...but, here they are anyway. I thought the textures of the leaf on the fern, and the yellow lilies grouped in this way made interesting shots. thanks for looking...

I think your thoughts are correct. And the color is spectacularly rich, too.
Wonderful - especially the first, IMO.
Thanks for sharing.

I was awed by the first one Tess until I saw the second one. What a gorgeous set of photos. The detail you achieve is amazing. Wonderfully done.

Thanks very much! Both were shot at ISO 400 with the K5 which I find produces these rich tones.

Thanks Susan... I was wondering if I should crop that second a bit...does the leaf seem off-balance? They both were the type you open up and think, wow, look at those textures and colours, before I even touched the RAW file.

Thank you very much Dave... I was really blown away by so many images I viewed this morning. I think too that when you shoot in one genre other genres seem so much more unique than one's usual fare. But, I love the results of the K5 and Tamron, and I am happy you liked them too.

I would leave it alone Tess. The veins frame the leaf beautifully as it is and a crop might ruin that framing don't you think? I could very well be wrong too, my husband is the king of crops while I tend to leave things alone.

Ditto to all the above! I wouldn't crop, these are truly lovely shots and the simple frame makes them super pop.

Nice idea and execution on that second one! HDR (I assume?) can really look cool on macros, though I haven't experimented with it much myself.

Thank you Cee Cee, the lily was a bit of a challenge. This was the best of several tries.

Thanks so much for commenting! You are right, I should not worry, but it is hard not to measure..... though being worried inspires me to try different things.

I left it because I thought the fern was so beautiful. But when I step back I just wondered about the position of the leaf. Thank you so much for your advice and thoughts Susan. Very much appreciated.

Thanks so much Bob. It is nice of you to drop in while on such a long journey. I imagine you and Terri pulling over for a driving break, stretching your legs then checking in on us pentaxians... I guess you have to always rest where there is wifi. What an eclectic and wonderful life.

No HDR Jerry and that was very close to what is looked like in RAW. It was morning, it had rained all night and there was no sun, and I used a high ISO and f/5.6. The K5 and Tamron 90 lens often produces these rich colours. Thanks for the nice comments!
