How Could they Do this to Me?
Posted By: Sailor, 01-28-2008, 05:31 PM

I washed my two-month-old car this weekend and noticed the plate number. Gee, were it not for the middle letter, I'd have had a free vanity plate. Fair enough; my wife says I've got nothing to be vain about.

I just opened the thread, and the picture pops right up - not that it's really worth looking at.

Photo disappearance apparently happens occasionally. I've noticed the same thing with threads from other posters, and people have complained about not seeing my shots (although most people complain when they do see my shots).

I'm probably doing something wrong - but don't know what it is, since sometimes you see 'em and sometimes you don't.

Here's where the link goes to, It'll probably work for you Jer since your computer already has the cookies saved.

I've had the same problem with my web site before as well.

Okay, neither the photo nor the link work for me. What does the plate say?

Thanks, Stu. When I open the link, I do see the picture. But others won't? Is this something I can fix, or is it simply due to the vagaries of the internet (which I don't understand)?

Of course, in this particular case, no great artistic achievement will be lost to the world, but I'd still like to know how to avoid the issue - if, indeed, one can.

I see it on my home computer though. Maybe it was being blocked at work.

The joke is that it says BNW when he owns a BMW.

It's a pretty sorry joke, to be frank. But the car is a BMW and the plate says BNW; people actually pay money in the States to have a plate with letters/numbers they can remember or that send a message - I'm not one of them. I'm starting to feel guilty about dragging ya'll through all of this for a pretty pathetic image . . . . but not too guilty.

Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now?

That commercial just kept ringing in my head as I read this thread. You was robbed of an M.

I had a plate like that once. My motorcycle was a 1968 BSA Lightening and the plate that was issued was 1969 on the back (motorbikes in Nova Scotia only had numbers back then) I was constantly explaining the 'error'.

I read a cute story in Reader's Digest many years ago about a fellow who came into a gas station driving a Jeep bearing a vanity plate that read "FAT PAT". The person who sent in the story was surprised to see a very slim guy get out of the Jeep and asked the driver why he had such unfitting plates. The answer? "It keeps my wife from borrowing my Jeep".

Maybe you could apply for that letter N to M?

@Sailor: Would be nice if the "6" part of the plate also matched. I seem to remember that your Bimmer is the 3-series.
