A couple of pooches
Posted By: hamidlmt, 01-29-2008, 12:57 AM

The other day, I took photos of my friend's dogs. I used the K10D and my trusty ol' Tamron 28-75mm 2.8. The Tamron has become my go to lens for use with dogs.

Kilo... a wise ol' soul...

Maddie... a very old pup... blind in one eye from a run in with a cat...

Maybe because it helps you keep a safe distance?

So your 50-135mm hasn't taken over as your "go to" lens? Was there a big battle between the two to see which one would win? I love looking at your pictures, but it seems our company (to remain unnamed) has blocked smugmug because it thinks it's an "online file sharing" site

So I have to catch up on your posts when I'm at home (which I am at now listening to my piano being tuned, oh glorious day!)

LOL! Just the opposite... the close focusing ability and focal range let's me get nice and close!

Your work probably wouldn't let you see a link then either, eh? Hamid Shibata Bennett's pet photos- powered by SmugMug

The 50-135 is a stellar lens with a great working distance for people portraits, but the minimum focus distance is about 1 meter. I often find myself having to scoot back to lock focus.

With dogs, I usually have to get close to get them to sit, stay and look where I want them to look. If I'm too far away, the want to come forward and give a lick. So, the Tamron provides just the right qualities for these types of doggie shots.

I understand your comments about working distance and doggies. I had my Sigma 10-20mm on the other day and tried getting right up on my pomeranian. He went right up to the lens and started licking the front element! Good thing I had a UV filter on there....

Yeah... that is always a danger with the dogs! LOL!

The lens hood of the Tamron generally provides enough protection... but, those puppy tongues are quick sometimes!
