The 50-135 is a stellar lens with a great working distance for people portraits, but the minimum focus distance is about 1 meter. I often find myself having to scoot back to lock focus.
With dogs, I usually have to get close to get them to sit, stay and look where I want them to look. If I'm too far away, the want to come forward and give a lick. So, the Tamron provides just the right qualities for these types of doggie shots.
