Lens art - Pentax DA40 Ltd
Posted By: dugrant153, 01-29-2008, 02:10 AM

Hopefully Pentax is okay with me taking glorious shots of one of their lenses for photographic art (my first prime... and what a beauty it is!). This lens was a lens I took 90% of my friend's wedding with!! And I still love it to this day. It has SO much character.

Pictures were taken with an off-camera AF540FGZ flash shot into an umbrella, using my all time favorite zoom lens at the moment: Pentax DA 16-45. The lens was shot on an ironing board with a white paper semi-background (my lame attempt at a 'macro' light box.

Note: This len is NOT FOR SALE, contrary to what the pictures may look like :P But it sure is a beauty!!

No 5 looks a bit too much exposed to me. Maybe 1/2 EV stop less would have made it more black. It is not a silver lens, is it?

Nice other pictures! I am tempted to buy it, even though it is not for sale. But what is there in the background? I would advise to remove it.

Nice product style shots. You should also post a few from the wedding to see how you/it preformed. Nice lens without a doubt and it almost feels like a body cap on the camera, not a lens of this quality. Small is an understatement.

Yeah, it's a bit of overexposure on #5. Could probably edit in photoshop, although I think the effect is kind of nice. And no, it's not a grey lens... hehe. it's black.
I agree in removing background in most shots, but I didn't have a chance to build a full macro box

The wedding photos (from a while back):

You're right, this lens is about the size and has the feel of a body cap People sometimes ask me "where's the lens on your camera?" and then I show them that it's still on the camera.

In #1, did you have the lens cap upside down on purpose?

oops! I was trying to show the 'Pentax' name, but I guess I accidentally put it upside down without knowing!

#6 is quite clever. I've got this lens too - it is a joy to use.

Just curious, but how does it perform in low-light. That's my only concern with the DA Limiteds. They cover a great range, but I'm afraid that the max aperture will not be good for low-light photography, at least not with the 21 and 40.

By the way, great shots, I especially like number 3.

No 5 overexposed?

It's a reflection. Where is the light coming from?

Nice shots of a very good lens, I have the "M" version and even that is a good lens.

Take care, Heinrich

Hehehe... if you look very very closely at the glass portion of the lens, you'll see a reflection of my Opus umbrella kit + AF540FGZ setup.
