Was reviewing last falls desert pics and came across this view of the Trona Pinnacles with the train in the foreground, "cropped" to landscape and ran thru Painshop Pro 'Time Machine' and selected circa 1904 for conversion. Enjoy Cliff

Nothing really has changed over a 100 year period has it Cliff. The trains are still hauling borax/soda ash and the tufa spires probably haven't changed at all on Searles Dry Lake. Great landscape photo for this old desert rat. thanks Bob

Nice... and I know exactly where that was taken. I have the same shot myself! I like the otherworldly look you can sometimes find in the eastern Sierras/395 area.

Treatment works really well here. Nice composition giving a sense of the huge sweep of this scene.

Jeff & Dave thanks for looking. Yes, it is vast but not empty, You just have to know where and what to look for to view the life & beauty in the Upper Mojave Desert. This was taken about 70 miles from Death Valley, also vast but not empty. thanks.......Cliff

Wow! A neat shot, and very well done! It is depressing to look at though. Never been on anti-depressants, but I could get there if I lived in a place like that! Bet we all could!

Regards!

Depressing for a squirrel, certainly. But I'm with Cliff -- the desert is beautiful once you learn to see it.

Rupert, the trick to living in the desert, is that you live with the desert, not fight it. The desert truly comes alive at night or after our infrequent rain showers. The spring time also brings the desert flowers, a sight to behold. I don't hear the night noises any more, been around too many jet engines and firearms, a desert symphony of all the little critters and such. But, hey thanks for looking. It would be a terrible mess if we all wanted to dance with the same girl.

Jeff, thanks Cliff
