This is a series of images from my recent trip to Tasmania, rather than post them individually!

Sunrise in Stanley

Highfield House, the original home of the Van Diemen's Land Company. The original plan was to raise sheep, but the company ended up making a profit from selling land, which is what they still do.

The convict barracks at Highfield.

Raindrops on eucalyptus leaves at Cradle Mountain.

Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake.

Pandani beside Dove Lake - they are not related to Pandanus Palms.

The boardwalk (or in this case a steel mesh walk) protects the forest from erosion by people's feet.

A closer view of Cradle Mountain. You can see how Dove Lake is tea coloured from the tannins our of the heath.

The historic boat shed with Cradle Mountain in the background.

Weindorfer's Forest at Cradle Mountain beside the replica of Waldheim Chalet.

Fungi, lichen and moss in Weindorfer's Forest.

The Aurora Australis in Hobart. This ship supplies Australian research stations in Antarctica.

A boot cleaning device at the entrance of Richmond Gaol.

Richmond Bridge, the oldest functioning bridge in Australia.

The Ballroom Forest beside Dove Lake, taken on my first trip to Tasmania in 1992. Fujichrome 100.

Some beautiful shots here. Did you use a polarizer on #2 and 3? Beautiful color in the sky.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! No, I didn't use a polariser. That's the result of the early morning sky on a winter's day in a place with some of the cleanest air in the world! Actually, I haven't used a polariser in years except to reduce reflections off windows.

Wonderful series. The bridge looks to be at Richmond if my memory serves me correctly. We are planning a trip to the west coast next year and hope to take in Cradle Mountain. Thanks for firing up the imagination

Thanks Bruce! Yes, it's Richmond Bridge, the oldest bridge still in use in Australia - I don't know if that means that there's an older one somewhere which isn't in use? Don't miss Cradle Mountain!

Thanks for the trip. A mystical place for sure. I love the shots of the forest but I am partial to them.

Beautiful country, and very well captured, indeed. Thank you for sharing--and do post more of Tasmania. I'm always interested in seeing distant places which probably I'll never have the chance to visit.

Mine too - I wish the Ballroom Forest had looked the same when I returned so I could have captured it with a DSLR! Either that or if I had a better scanner than my LS30 which could do the slide better justice.

Thanks Susan! Me too - wish I'd had more time to capture it - and a tripod! The one piece of photography gear I forgot to take...

Thanks! When I get the chance, I'll see if there's a couple more worth adding.

Some more of Tasmania!

A very shy wombat - pausing to decide if he should hide under Weindorfer's chalet again, or find something to eat. He eventually decided on food.

A Tasmanian Pademelon making sure the lawn at the chalet is cropped close.

A Black Currawong alert for any sign of food. No, it's not a crow.

Tree Ferns at Welborough Pass in a remnant of Gondwanaland forest. I didn't see any dinosaurs, but it wouldn't have been surprising!

I've read Lord of the Rings many times - and I always wanted to visit Buckland!

Thanks Cee cee! You should definitely visit again - especially when it's not so far for you to travel from Victoria!
