My first butterfly shoot.
Lens: Pentax 100mm wr Camera: K5 Photo Location: My yard-Saugus Ma.
Posted By: charliezap, 08-20-2012, 02:09 PM

I've got humminbirds-bees-dragonfles-but today the butterflies were at my beckon call and let me shoot from 2-3ft away. This was my first foray at butterflies that I can remember in a very long time.I like the way that their tongues unwind to get the nectar. What a day.Where's my red solo cup so I can calm down.--charliezap

I'm a slave Dennis.I see these opportunities around the yard on any given day and it turns into a shoot.Good thing I'm retired.--charliezap

Thumbs up for that last one. All excellent but that last one stands out! I noticed from the EXIF data that you didn't use flash on that one, and "only" f/13, and that at ISO 100. Must have been pretty bright!

How do you get the EXIF data link to appear? I don't see that option.

I think the exif data is only on pics uploaded directly to the forum? When I started linking from flickr the exif link disappeared.

Great shots, a splash of intense colour in a bleak stormy day for me!

I like butterflies. You made good work with them. The last one is my favorite. The others have to much colors around for me.

All nicely done and have to say the last one is my favourite.
It looks like flash has been used, but apparently not.

Thanks everyone for the comments.I was very pleased with this being my first butterfly shoot.Flash was used on all the shots but it doesn't show in the exif data because it's shoe mounted. If it was the k5's flash it would show.I try to balance the flash with the ambient light so that it doesn't look like flash was used. That way I can use a low ISO and really close down the f/stop.----charliezap

Well done Charlie. You even have the butterfly and the bee sharing the same flower. Nice and sharp with lots of lovely colors.

The butterflies as I type are still around the flowers right now.If I have some time I'll do round 2. On all pics the flash was used.--charliezap
