Belted Kingfisher - male

Caught this little fellow on my way back from a long walk at the salt marsh. They are quite busy this time of the year, taking loads of small fish.

Nice catch. I've got a couple in the neighborhood that I've been trying to nail for weeks. I got one back in June ducks and birds :: belted kingfisher on flagpole front yard june picture by oeriies - Photobucket but since then no luck. As you know they are very wary. When they see me coming they move to the next tree or pole, which is always a little too far away to generate a good shot. I think they're teasing me.

That is a super shot JP and probably as close as I will ever come to one. They have to be the toughest bird to grab a photo of but you managed very well.

He got a nice catch too, and thanks for the reply.
I agree: they are a tough act to follow, always going from one pole/tree to the next.

Thank you Susan.

I think the key in trying to get "closer" is to know where they "should" be fishing and then just wait ... wait ... get eaten alive by mosquitoes ...

I happened to be there just at the right time and because he was so busy feeding, he didn't really are about my presence.
