No tripod and very overcast, then a ray of sunshine. Over the next few weeks I need to learn a lot!

Looks like you're doing very well to me. Beautiful colors, although the lit side is a bit blown.

Thanks for that, I have had a problem with the K10D underexposing so have compensated a stop, probably needs to come back a tad for brighter lighting as in this, where the sun suddenly burst out.
