No time to get a tripod, really didn't think these would turn out as this is a cheapie cheap lens with near non existent DOF.

Quite amazing for being hand-held. I prefer the gull, just because of the "Watch out for Australia" - which somehow to me seems like a warning for the gull.

good result, the pelican is really nice. I think the gull is keeping watch - hey there's an idea for a thread " birds on signs " I have a couple.
cheers.

I like the pelican, but there is something really compelling about the sign. Very impressive for handheld!

Those are excellent shots. There are a couple odd-looking blobs on the first one though, in front of the beak and the opposite corner.

No idea, no dirt on the lens and the shots were less than a minute apart. Some sort of refraction from the mirror? I have no experience with these sort of lenses.

both very well done, cheap lens, not sure about that with the results, I think you got a nice lens at any price. Keep shootin with it and will be interesting to see the difference on a tripod.

It doesn't look like dirt, dust, nor refraction. I just point them out as being there, and perhaps they could be removed. The only goofy thing a mirror lens does is make out-of-focus doughnuts.

Although, they do both appear to be donut shaped, as well as almost a mirror image of each other.
(the bottom right one appears to be almost the exact inverse of the top left)

Perhaps there's some sort of dust on the internal mirror causing it?

There also appears to be an odd sort of worm shape on top of the pelican's beak, near the tip.

Overall, very nice though for a random brand lens.

Gosh, I have got to get my eyes tested. I was finally able to find the spots everyone is referring too finally. I also think the wormy looking thing shows up just above the red crescent in the first shot, right of center. Anyhow, they are fine shots with the lens and handheld to boot.

It is on both shots, below the A in the first and also on the pelicans beak. I will play some more, at $169 delivered I was not expecting much, next test will be tripod mounted!

What do you think of the contrast of the lens? Mirror lenses generally have weak contrast but
some are better/worse than others.

--Anders.

This was a very overcast and dull day, early noon light, so I think it did well, I'd need to shoot in sunny conditions to judge better.

It did--I think you've got a keeper there. I suspect the spots are sensor dust--easy to remove in pp (and you can boost contrast in pp too if you want.) You might want to do the rocket blower thing to the camera.
