Believe it or not, #2 and #3 are uncropped. These are shot standing on a wooden platform with a nice sturdy railing, hanging over the edge of a pond. This particular alligator often hangs out under the platform. In fact, while waiting for it to emerge yesterday, I looked down and noticed some reflections through the cracks between the boards of the platform. I got down close to peer through the cracks and found myself face to face, about two feet away, from a ten foot alligator. It will often emerge right at the edge of the platform, which is how I got shots #2 and #3. #2 is shooting through the rails of the platform, so despite being so close it is quite safe.

Not sure I agree about being safe that close to a gator but the second shot really is menacing.
