Rhythm of the birds..
Posted By: clarenceclose, 01-01-2007, 03:38 PM

Approximately 200 sparrows winter in the spruce trees, flock to the lilac bushes to swoop on any chicken food I put out in the pen. Here they are making an interesting pattern in the neighbor's poplar trees. PP incl. levels for lightening, slight color sat. in LAB and minimum sharpening.
Overcast day, DA50-200mm lense @ 200mm, 1/250@f6.7, ISO 100.
C&C appreciated.

Awesome shot, super composition. I can only imagine what 200 sparrows in one tree sounds like

Another great composition. There is minimal colour within the frame and somehow I still like it the way it is. Making it B & W would lose that "coolness" altogether.

You do have great blurr in the lower half of the photograph. That shifts my attention to the higher portion of the shot. There is not much in focus in the upper half of the shot at all and individual birds are not either "prominent" or "clear enough" to rest my focus upon.

Overall a great abstract. Theme might have been lacking.

I have a similar situation here. A big tree at back of mum's house where lots of lorikeets are busy making noise. My shot was no where near the kind of shot you posted here.

p.s. I am over critical here. The shot is pleasant and poetic. No doubt about that.

The image suffered too much compression when it was resized and the result is a low quality picture. Otherwise, it looks great.

Thank you all for your comments. These birds drive me nuts because, though they are not terribly exotic, they are very photogenic. I will continue to work on my lighting and focus. Who knows, a little better of each and I might get a reasonably clear shoot.

I have to say the shot was a little less than perfect to start with and the compression managed to mangle it further. This is one that may lend itself to a watercolor look as it is so abstract. Simple patterns of birds and twigs against the sky.
