Abandoned Drilling Rig, Santa Cruz Island
Lens: Pentax 17-70 mm f/4 Camera: Pentax K-7 Photo Location: Channel Islands National Park ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/350s Aperture: F6.7

An abandoned rig, probably from the 1940's or 1950's, on Santa Cruz Island off the coast of Santa Barbara. I don't know if this is an oil rig or a water rig, but I'm guess the latter from the small size.

First all those darn Iceland pics causing all kinds of jealousy and now you go back to the Channel Islands. You are a cruel person.

Thanks... I love this golden color of the California countryside in summer.

I did! Stopped here for a lunch break and took lots of closeups and industrial style shots. Have fun in Iceland!

Great catch, looks like fog moving in, typical there isn't it.

Thanks Bob. A lot of clouds and grey weather here for sure, especially in the summer months, usually not fog in the usual sense but rather low lying clouds that hug the higher contours. This kind of cloud cover is usually present all over the southern California coast from May through July (called the "June gloom", it often surprises tourists), but most of the time it burns off by early to mid afternoon. SoCal ocean water temperatures also surprise first time tourists. Water temp will rarely exceed 70 degrees at the height of summer, and is more typically in the high 60's. On a typical July day on Santa Cruz Island the sea water will be about 65 degrees.
