The Old Coal Loader
Lens: SMC DA 18-55mm AL WR Camera: Pentax K10D Photo Location: Catherine Hill Bay ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/250s Aperture: F11

This old pier was once used to load coal from a nearby coal mine onto ships. It has not been used since the end of 1963 but is an icon in the area. There has been talk about demolishing it because of the cost of maintenance but I'm not sure how much it is costing to just leave it there. It would be a crying shame to see it go.

It is at its best when photographed at dawn. I have images taken at dawn if you want to see them.

Disused or not, it's definitely a point of interest/history on the shoreline and I think it would be a shame to see it gone.

Nicely shot, cheers for sharing!

Well framed the pier leads you nicely out to the water , hopefully they maintain it.

Love the way you took this shot Ray, yes leave it there for history sake, there must be a group that would take it under its wing and preserve it. I would enjoy seeing another photo, thanks Bob

Thank you, one and all, for your kind comments. Dawn shots will be posted soon. Time of year is important to get the sun coming up in the right place. That also has to be coupled with the right tide.
