I became fascinated by the juxtaposition of nature treading upon the machine, and the machine that treads upon the landscape. I have returned many times to photograph what is in my mind's eye, but I am not sure if I captured the essence of what I feel.
A machine that can move a mountain
push over Oak trees
drain a wetland
unearth great masses of fossiled rock
treads heavy upon the landscape.
But, from the disassembled earth plants emerge.
They clamour to the machine, which reifies.
They reclaim the land, claim the machine as their own!
This is the part of the story that makes me happy.
