The oldest mountain range in the world makes a nice backdrop to this sea of Canola (Rapeseed)

OK, never made it anywhere near there. We were in Perth for a few days in the 1980's and toured for a day in the countryside around there, but it was pretty mild topography.

Everything around here apart from the nearby Porongurup Range is pretty flat. Pity you never made it down here!

That mountain range is very picturesque. Good images.

How come those mountains are older than other mountains in Oz?

Salt affected farmland, sustainable farming has a way to go.

Be there long after we leave.

I believe carbon dating came to that conclusion.

The layers stacked on each other in the last photo are beautiful. From the crispy sticks to the fluffly clouds. Nicely seen and beautifully captured.

Carbon dating is just for really young stuff (you can't get very good results past about 100,000 years even with modern techniques). Your Stirling Range Formation is listed as about 1.8 billion years old, from Uranium/Lead isotopic methods (see Stratigraphic Search - Full Results - Geoscience Australia (Version: 2.4.0)). Of course, that's the rock's age. The age of the mountain range seems to be a little less certain, but the uplift of the rocks to their present elevation seems to be around 1.34 billion yrs ago according to An Error Occurred Setting Your User Cookie...

Sounds like a contender for the oldest surviving mountain range, indeed.
