Hay Bales and a Boathouse (More added)
Lens: 12-24 & 16-50 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Cumbria, UK
Posted By: mark lj, 09-22-2012, 04:38 PM

Posted a couple of these elsewhere but as there are a few hay bales thought I'd put them together here. Might be a bit dark to some eyes but I'm that way out at the moment.

Got up very early this morning to go for a planned dawn at Haweswater. Got there and it wasn't right at all. No clouds and choppy water. Detoured round by Ullswater and the Eden Valley as the cold night brought a mist at dawn. Took one of the the Boathouse before moving on to the area round Gt Salkeld. I decided to spend an hour or so playing with hay bales before heading home and making bacon butties for everyone. I need to make a list of locations - I'd forgotten places I planned to visit during the Autumn mists and was rushing a bit when I remembered them. A good morning though and more fun than I thought it was going to be when I was stood at the side of Haweswater at 5.30am

Forgive me the dust spots in a couple. Forgot to remove them from one in particular.

Really stunning work, Mark! I have a real weakness for hay bale photos and you have sent me over the edge with these!! Amazing light, lovely mist, and wonderful compositions.

I am a sucker for anything agriculture related and just love the early morning field photos. #3 is my favorite of them all. Your early morning quest was well rewarded - thanks for sharing!

I like the style of these, very artistic and moody feel. Luckily you caught that fog which gave so much atmosphere to these pictures!

Phenomenal work Mark!!! I think the round bales are very photogenic in the right place, these are composed well enough that they would be outstanding in rain or shine, but with fog they are incredible! And I like the fact that you moved around and got the "golden" backlit fog on a couple. How long were you out there? Looks like you moved about quite a bit for the different compositions. Well worth getting your feet soaked with the dew!

Marvelous series with a wonderful old world feel to them. All dreamy and mystical and you captured the light so beautifully.

Cheers Tom. I visited three or four fields which were maybe a total of 4 miles apart. I had promised to be back just after 9 to make breakfast for my wife and kids (my wife does shifts and didn't get in from work till 3am). The sun was getting higher all the time so I had more or less come to the end of the good light. The last field was my favourite and I didn't do my usual thing which is tripod and mirror up shooting with the remote so they perhaps aren't as sharp as they should have been. I was rushing a bit as there was nowhere to park and I was blocking the road. Should still have used the tripod.

Edit: Thanks Dice and Slowpez - I was typing as you posted.
