Here are some dragonflies in flight, not the easiest assignment that I gave myself but with perseverance and a lot of luck here are a few keepers.

Oh Heinrich these are wonderful! I adore Dragonflies and have never seen such amazing shots of them in flight. We'll have to make an acronym and start a thread DIF, but I bet very few would have a photo to share! The bokeh is so beautiful in these, most especially the first. Thanks so much for taking the time to shoot and post!!

They're all fine shots, and that bokeh is incredible.
Hard for me to choose a favourite, but probably the second one.

Well done Heinrich, I find it hard enough to get Bees in flight and they are slower!

Dang it Heinrich, you could have made it look a lot harder to get those shots. Marvelous and so difficult. Sharp and lovely bokeh. You have to love the 55-300 and in your hands it is a winner.

Thank you Tess for the praise, at first try it was very frustrating but once you get the hang of it it becomes fun but don't ask about keeper ratio.

Take care,

Thank you Susan, that 55-300 has done super duty for me, it is the best so called "consumer lens" that I have ever owned.

Take care,

These are great Heinrich, thanks for sharing! I especially like number two, the dragonly is entirely in focus, and the light background shows very nicely with the detail of the wings. Also, I love the light sparkling off them. Are these cropped at all, or did you somehow manage to focus on and track them zipping along that close to you?

I know what you mean about the keeper ratio, if I keep shooting dragonflies I'll easily be at my 100,000 shutter clicks by next summer
