Deserted Railway Line
Lens: 18-55mm WR Camera: Pentax K5 Photo Location: Dorrigo ISO: 200
Posted By: Barnster, 09-26-2012, 11:06 PM

I did a day trip yesterday with a friend around some of the national parks.Up at Dorrigo ,there is a unused train line at the present which runs from Dorrigo down to Glenreagh, near Coffs Harbour. The Dorrigo Steam Railway and Museum Ltd own about 35kms of the line which they are trying to restore and get some of these classic old steam trains running through this most beautiful scenic route again. This is one part of the line that was taken on a very low point of the track heading north.

FANTASTIC shot....Never seen anything like that before, connected with, "Old Steam".
We have a fair number of lines in Victoria, that are the subject of "rejuvination", & restoration to....STEAM.
Cheers, Pickles.

Nice shot. To stay in context this is the rail line at Guyra, top of the range.

Very interesting.
With the sepia-like treatment, it looks like it's out of the 1920's.

Great shots! The low perspective has my attention - I've never tried that!

The museum group up at Dorrigo have a large collection of the old steamers, even two of the original ones that were put on the Sydney Harbour Bridge before it was opened to test if the bridge could take the weight.

That's a nice capture Trev.It definetly puts a different prospective on a train line when you get down low. This is another train line that hasn't been used for years, between Armidale,Guyra,Glen Innes and I think all the way up to the border.

Thanks Susan.I thought the image needed to keep in theme with the old feel to the train line and thinking about what type of trains use to travel down these tracks,so thats why I went for the old style look.

Thanks Dave! The way I captured it was me on the start of the Bridge crossing, stretching my arm up between the sleepers with the K5 on Liveview,so that way I could get the lowest POV.

Thanks Mickey. The PP was done in Corel X5 which they have a very good effect called 'Time Machine',which can give different looks from cameras ranging back in the 1800's to 1960's or so and for this image it seemed to suit it well.

Thanks Canada Rockies.Like I said to Dave,it was the arm stretch through the sleepers that done the job.And the liveview came in handy in this situation. My wife said that she wanted me to bring home an image like this,so I was determined to just that. And like you had never tried a shot this low.
