More Birds
Lens: DA* 300mm Camera: K-5
Posted By: slowpez, 09-30-2012, 09:43 AM

A few more of my favorite shots from the beach.
A Woodstork, Osprey and two shots of Great Egrets. The last also has a group of Woodstorks feeding under the fighting egrets.

Lovely sharp images, Susan! I'd love to get a DA300 f4 myself, but the K5ii comes first! Knowing how close I have to get in order to photograph birds of this size with my DA55-300, you've done really well.

Thanks Rob. The state park is a wonderful place to be able to get close. The causeway, a road you drive to get to the beach, has salt water on one side and fresh water on the other. When the tide is out, all the birds come to eat and, as a result, are fairly close to the road.

Cool shots - the last one with the two birds interacting is a great catch.

I am so glad someone else liked the first one. The Woodstork looks so ungainly when taking off or landing I was hoping to capture it and that one turned out well I thought.

You should have seen those guys, they chased each other all over the marsh. It was fun to watch.

Thanks Bob. I keep on trying and am enjoying it much more with the combo of the K-5 and the 300mm.

I saw a similar spot in the Northern Territory - a stream flowed across a road with wetlands on either side. There were huge numbers of herons and other birds catching fish as they crossed over. It was hard to get really good photos because I couldn't get out of the car - the wetlands were also occupied by large salt water crocodiles.
