The birds around here only show up when the sprinklers are running! Bummer. I had to shoot these through the spare bedroom window with a blanket over the top of me, with only the camera lens sticking out. Any sign of activity in a window and they are gone! Anyhoo, here's what I managed to capture this afternoon. One poor ole' Meadow Lark and a Srub Jay with attitude!

I like the scrub jay, I thought they were generally friendly, give them some peanuts and I bet they stick around longer

We don't want them to hang around too much as we have a West Nile virus problem in this area. The virus has killed several horses and put two people in the hospital. The county checked some dead birds found down the road from us and they checked positive for West Nile. Birds carry the virus and mosquitos feed on infected birds and then pass it on to horses and humans. Sad.
