I took the picutresat the Axalp Fliegerschiessen in Switzerland. It basically takes place once a year (if the weather is good enough) up in the mountains. Very special compared to most other events

There is not special process I follow when I develop the pictures. I use Apples Aperture, but it is similar for other programs like Lightroom or Photoshop.
In general I first do the basic color, exposure and contrast corrections. I usually also slightly push the Definition (Clarity in Adobe products) and Vibrancy (Vibrance in Adobe). After that I also tend to lighten the shadows by a bit.
After those "standard" corrections have been done (no special settings, just manual correction to make it look right
) it depends on the picture...
In the case of the
Patrouille Suisse I was not really satisfied with the picture. Lighting was complicated with Airplanes in the shadow with a bright foggy sky.
To give it a little more pop, I pushed the reds in light and saturation.
After that I had to apply corrections locally only to the airplanes using masking. Here it was basically only using Dodge and Definition.
Instead of Definition I sometimes also use photoshop, where you might not even need a mask if you are lucky.
->Duplicate the picture layer -> apply a High Pass filter on the top layer->Set it to Hard Light and arround 40% transparency
This pushes the contrasts of the edges.
You have to be careful with that, as all "sharp" edges will be pushed. In portraits I limit it only to eyes and lips usually.
Hope this helped
Chris
There is no special procedure and I am still in development of my process. When I see what others do, I am still only at the beginning
