Border Collies -- Just Dogs
Lens: various Camera: K5, K20D Photo Location: South Algonquin, Ontario
Posted By: tessfully, 10-13-2012, 06:50 AM

Since seeing the photos of Shadow I have wanted to post some of my favourite Border Collie shots. Rupert, if you are out there --- here you go, a doggie thread!!!

Tripper when he was 8 weeks old

Tripper in high gear!!

My favourite portrait

We adopted Kenzie at 1 year old, 2 years ago. She has a grade 6 heart murmur and every day with her from now on is a blessing. But she has not slowed down one bit, and nothing we can do will slow her down. She lives every moment to the fullest...

My favourite portrait...

The two of them together is a hard shot to capture

Every once in a while old Dreamer gets in on the action

Thanks for looking I've been building an album of my favourite dog shots from the last two years. I'll keep adding to it as I purge my files and/or take new photos. Here is a link for anyone who can't get enough of doggies

Just love all the shots Tess. Great action captures of your high energy dogs. I like the first one in that @ 8 weeks old Tripper is already in the canoe and ready to go.

Nice exposures under trying light and conditions.

Border Collies are among the (if not THE) smartest, most loyal dogs on Earth. Wish I had the space to give one or two, but cities just don't work well for them.

Thanks Stan! You'd never know it by his pics, but Trip was a wild wild puppy. Thank goodness he has calmed down a little bit. He has always liked the canoe, and he has learned not to jump out for a swim in the middle of a large lake.

You are right monochrome, they are very loyal, never run, Kenzie is especially smart... a great problem-solver, and she picks up the slack for Tripper. The reason we got Kenzie is because someone who lived in an apartment bought her as a puppy and could not deal with her high energy needs. They are a handful. Thank goodness we live where we do... they have a great life for a Border Collie. Thanks for having a look and for the nice comments

Thank you Bob! It has been a while since I posted dog shots. Some of these are repeats as I wanted Mr. 008 to see Trip in action. I need to get busy with the Frisbee and camera for some fresh shots!

Some wonderful shots. I'm amazed you managed to freeze the action in a couple of those; I've tried similar shots with my dog just recently, and autofocus on the K-r wasn't nearly fast enough to keep up.

Thanks Kona... it took many failures to get a few good ones, and Tripper was very happy to comply with the rigour. The K5 is an amazing camera and I used a fast lens. I think mostly the Tamron 90 macro. for the real good action shots.

Enjoyed the photos.
My uncle has had 3 border collies: brown/whie, black/white, and now grey/white.
Lovely dogs, very alert, and non-stop.

Thanks Jim! They do ruin the odd picture and I can't take them if I am looking for wildlife shots. Otherwise, they are perfect companions!
