Space Shuttle on LA street
Lens: DA 40/70 mostly Camera: K5 Photo Location: Inglewood CO
Posted By: SpecialK, 10-13-2012, 03:00 PM

The shuttle was moving to its new home at the ScienCenter (that's how they spell it). One of many stops was here at the Forum in Inglewood.

Parking opened about 4AM, and I got here about 6AM. The speaker's stand (left of the light) was set up for later speeches.

Not much to do but wait and shoot the moon and landing airplanes (under the flight path to LAX :-) I'm lazy and never get around to doing any NR...

I chatted with the owner of this (and two other lens/camera combos).

The first appearance. It is maneuvered by remote control.

The wingspan is something like 78 feet, so some trees were cut down, and power lines and poles were moved.

It parked here.

No idea what he was shooting.

Happy people.

I left at 8AM, though speakers were going to talk at 9AM, I had other places to go. Eventually I will have pictures of the shuttle at the ScienCenter.

All 128x78 foot is still on the move through LA, it is now on Crenshaw Blvd., the news says about 30,000 people are in the area viewing Endeavor.
Thanks for the photojournalism report Kyle, it looks to be a little beat up from your photos, of course going into space would have a tendency to do that I would think. I enjoyed the photos and narrative, thanks Bob

Neat shots! It must have been a real experience to be that close! It seems even larger than I expected.
Nice work in getting those for us!
Regards!

Good stuff Kyle, I'm very amused by the goofball hold up the laptop camera.

Thanks for posting, Kyle. I've seen the one at Udvar-Hazy (can't remember the name) here in VA 3 times. I'm lucky enough to live 10 miles from the Center.

@Ramseybuckeye: That guy might actually be using an Ipad in a case with a keyboard. I've seen several of those.

Estimates approaching several hundred thousand total viewers is what I've heard.

Actually, I think there were better locations, but hard to tell in the moment...

He probably thought all the photogs with bulky equipment (and no keyboard) were dinosaurs.

I saw that one when I was there. It's the Enterprise, and much cleaner than this one :-)
