I like the ambiguity in this image and how it invites the imagination to create meaning..
I see considerable metaphoric meaning. The fallen leaves suggest Autumn is approaching for the traveler. And while the path immediately ahead may be straight and well illuminated, the clarity and certainty of the not too distant future dissolves into the fog. Yet the traveler does have the added assurance of the railing; something someone else built there as an aid, something to trust and lean on and use as a guide, perhaps, in case the fog becomes too thick to see one's next step. And there is also the street light which one would hope implies others further along the path that will illuminate as darkness approaches.
And I think the title, "My ascent through the fog" fits this interpretation quite well for those of us getting older ... though our retirement castles, for 99% of us at least, will not compare with those of the Hohenzollern family.
