I thought I had finished my final edit run when I posted that last set of Iceland landscapes. Now, I thought, just go through and delete the pictures that didn't work. The problem is, I see some of these duds and wonder, what would happen if....? So in the case of the recent duck pond picture I posted, it was a very dark image without much redeeming qualities, but I ran it through Topaz Adjust, clicking away on "I'm Feeling Lucky" and seeing if anything interesting pops up. So here are a few more examples of that approach. I know that these won't appeal to everyone, and many might prefer the originals. :-) But they're kinda fun to look at I think.
In this first one, the image was dull and slightly out of focus. Here's the original.
Here's what Topaz did with it.
In this second case this shot of a fountain failed badly. The surface of the fountain is too black to be interesting, and the leaf and berry below suffer from too much flash.
Topaz came up with this.
This last one was the most interesting to me. Here's the original. Pretty boring.
I ran it through Topaz several times, and then picked three of the results and ran them through Photomatix. Normally we think -EV, 0, +EV exposures as inputs into Photomatix to increase dynamic range, but in this case I input three random shots (why not?), and here's what emerged.
