1884 RR Day Coach
Lens: 43mm Camera: K5 Photo Location: Douglas WY.
Posted By: Bob Harris, 10-30-2012, 02:26 PM

from our travels, we visited the small town of Douglas Wyoming to view the collection of railway cars at the local Chamber of Commerce. I have included the placard for detailed information and received permission to take some interior photos to share. I wondered as I viewed the coach how many cowboys had gotten off of the range and rode in luxury across the same land that they drove cattle to markets.

Probably more than just one or two. Good capture of the interior details.

How cool is this? Way, way cool. I think #3 is an exceptional shot that really does justice to this wonderful coach. Jim

I do love trains, especially steam locomotives and the associated cars. Great interior photos! Don't get to see the interiors often.

I know a couple that bought four old coaches, moved them onto their property, refurbish them, and now happily live in old rail cars set in a semi-circle! It's actually very nice!

And to think, just about 120 years ago THIS was the height of transportation exceptionalism! Makes Jet Blue and SW Airlines look quite lame in comparison (but we get there is hours instead of days, I know).

Regards,

Thanks Dave, yes airplanes are quicker, unless they are stuck on the tarmac for hours/days and then there are those TSA inspectors, delays, lost/stolen luggage, I'm sure you know the drill. The thing with the trains is they have great dining cars too, born too late I guess

I once did some work in the bar car on one of those trains.... those guys knew what kind of environment to have a drink in. You won't find many restaurants today more plush and comfortable.

Norm, I don't think you can find any better environment than having a glass of wine, sitting by a campfire and looking at the landscapes in your area. Now that is living.
