Morning Has Broken
Camera: K5 Photo Location: Zion NP, Utah
Posted By: Bob Harris, 11-01-2012, 06:14 AM

I don't do early morning photography, but was challenged/razzed by a couple of members to give it a try. I really don't see a lot of difference between sunrise and sunset, but I thought I would share my first and only early morning shot. I do think the lower section of the photo does have a darker glow to the mountain, maybe that is due to the sun rising.

Nice shot and colors Bob. Why not try the next one from the top of that little hill?

Well done, from one of the razzers! Quality of light can sometimes be a bit different at sunrise; the air will usually be cooler, more often still, and sometimes foggy or misty. But the main difference is the direction.

That would work for me Charlie, getting up on EasternTime, a difference of 3 hours.

Too high for me Christo, it is about 5000', I would need oxygen at that height.

It was one of my major accomplishments since I retired. We saw the Cat twice, way back in the day, great concerts, lots of odd burning aromas in the place Glad you caught the title reference.

I'm glad you saw the thread, yes it was meant mainly for you Good lesson for me, learning and actually seeing where the sun rises I immediately went back to bed so I was rested to see the sunset.

Early morning shots - isn't that what a intervalometer is for?

Bob, I am with you about early morning photography but I must say , this one was worth the hassle, one doesn't this light any other time. Thanks for posting it.

Summer mornings are to for me also, winter isn't too early and not too cold being subtropical. With this shot I think it was well worth the early rise, we'll done.

nice photo. It could be a little darler as you said.

The most difficult point for morning shot is to "wake up early".

Congratulations Bob. You win the award for being the most adventurous one out there. I am not counting people like Tess who think sunrises are the cats pajamas but I'm talking about those of us who know better than to get up out of a nice warm bed for a wonderful shot like this one. It was worth the effort obviously but I would suggest not letting it become a habit.
