Hockley Viaduct - the final version
Lens: Samyang 8mm Camera: Pentax K-7 (IR modified) Photo Location: Winchester,UK
Posted By: karma mechanic, 11-07-2012, 02:25 PM

Another resurrected pano - 5 fisheye images stitched with great difficulty due to insufficient skill. The Hockley Viaduct was considered an eyesore in the 1980's, Winchester Council apparently contacted the Army with a view to blowing it up. Luckily common sense prevailed due to the efforts of various groups including the Friends of Hockley Viaduct

This image is dedicated to W.L.Galbraith who conjured all 33 arches of the viaduct across the Water Meadows in 1890.

That rare image actually made better by the presence of jet contrails in the sky. Unique, otherworldly -- well done.

An illustration of transport old and new - and I love the curved lines. Thanks for the feedback.

Very nice, stitched fisheyes? Wow. I'm thinking of buying a rectilinear lens, just to avoid that.

Really well done. The lighting and the repeated arches theme work well together.
What are you using for stitching?

I always use Hugin for stitching.

In this particular case I'd done the images freehand, and the camera hadn't been very well aligned on the nodal point of the lens. Just a couple of inches is enough to alter the relationship between close foreground and background with an 8mm lens, especially when keeping the camera down low. So it was a tricky one to stitch because of those shifts, and also the vapor trails were drifting over the few seconds that I was taking the shots.

Here's the individual frames:

The vertical FOV is 148 degrees according to Hugin, with the lens type set as a stereographic projection. Easy to get your feet in every picture
