more fun with the teleconverter
Lens: Pentax 50mm 1.7 + Pentax 1.7 TC Camera: K-5 Photo Location: South Algonquin, Ontario
Posted By: tessfully, 11-10-2012, 03:43 PM

Today I took the teleconverter out with the 50mm. As Norman said, you may as well take the Tamron 90 macro. But, I wanted to see what kind of results I might get with this combination. Nothing too exciting, and maybe I would have done better with the Tamron, but here are a few images from today.

The wind was blowing...I'd like to try this one again

The infamous dead leaf and ice shot

and again... I like the lines and curves

and ice crystals on a rotting stump... I kind of like this one

I am sneaking these in for Bob... he has an affinity for "pond scum" (although I think this is pine sap)

thank you for having a look

I don't know about 'nothing too exciting'--you made them interesting.

Tell Norm to take a hike - which in your part of the woods isn't too hard. This is another wonderful set. Some great colours, especially in the second image.

Pine sap has a direct connection to pond scum. Pine sap is in an advanced form of scum and you can tell this by the chemical makeup that creates crystals inside of the bubbles. This is a great find and never seen in the Algonquin area before. More research is needed Tess, the rest of the photos are average compared to these beautiful formations that you captured. My scum photography continues, I will post some images again when my studies are completed.

Thanks causey. Sometimes I feel like I am posting the 'same old' especially in November, so I am really happy to read they remain interesting

Thank you imtheguy (great handle!) I did spend a lot of time processing these to bring out the features I like. Glad you like the results!

Bob, I have several shots of various formations and consistencies and a series I have titled "Breaking Up is Hard to Do." We might need to start a special thread for these informative shots. I doubt such an in depth study on the mysteries of pond scum is ever complete, so I recommend posting your findings once catalogued. Regards, your Scum buddy.

The third shot is stunning Tess. Pine scrum or pine sap or just ground goo, love them and the second of the two is my favorite. The little bits of captured light make them so interesting.
