nothing special, just some icescapes from a cold morning
Posted By: little laker, 02-10-2008, 11:52 AM

I actually took these on the very cold morning of Jan 29th, and like them. But I never posted them. Sorry they were done with the wrong camera, but I thought that some people might still like them.

Amazing blue sky in your captures. What camera did you use? (you said it was the wrong camera)

Wow, amazing! Definitely conveys a feeling of frigidness.

Nice series Stu. I like 1 & 4 best. CPL? Great whites and blues in these.

Thanks Paden,
Like stated I used my Sigma SD14 that day. It's still new o me, and I was trying to get the feeling of it that day before I really need to be familiar with it.

In my opinion the only reason why the sky is such an amazing colour is because I used Manual White Balance. It's the day I discovered how much of a difference that one little thing can make.
It isn't as important with a Pentax, but it still makes a difference

Thanks Tyler,
ISO 50 is nice, but not all that important.
Pentax would probably do it with the K10, with just a simple firmware update. If they thought it was important.

Thanks Chris,
It was around -25 Celsius here that morning, which is around -13 Fahrenheit. So I didn't stay out all that long

Thanks Peter,

I didn't know what CPL stands for, and a google search says that it's a circular polarizer.
If that's what you were referring to I'll have to say, no filters that day

I can't afford them for a 82mm filter thread at the moment, so I probably won't get any for that monster lens for a while.
I used a Sigma 24 - 70 f2.8

Beautiful contrasts of white and blue Stu. They really set each other off well.

Thanks Jer,

Anyone here could come up with similar photographs, with the right conditions. So I don't consider them as special photographs.

Although I'm on another learning curve, and really enjoying it.

Thanks Paul,
With Spring just around the corner I'm really looking forward to seeing what I can do with fresh buds, and all the new growth.

Thanks Dave,
I hope that it does warm up for you soon.

It's just above freezing today, so it's looking like spring is coming early.

I agree with Peter.. 1 and 4 are my favorites as well. Although 3 runs is pretty close behind. The only thing I really dont like is the little fence behind the little tree in #4..

Other than that.. the whites and blues are amazing... Makes me want to try manual even more.... (biting fingernails)....

I beg to differ there Sparky.. Yes it is true that anyone can catch a great shot.. BUT.. its takes a eye , the knowledge, and a good photographer to do it time and time and time again as you have...

Thanks for sharin... They are very good!!!! I can see them pictured in a nice dark frame on my wall!!!

Thanks Kim,
I had 2 choices with #4. Either have an ugly mobile home in the shot, or the fence.
I made the right choice

I'm looking forward to seeing your work after you start shooting in manual.
It'll open up a whole new creative avenue for you

Oh, I'll be making one of them into a clock for my new pad pretty soon
