Hummingbird Tongue

I've taken a lot of Hummingbird photos but this is the first I have taken of a bird with the tongue out.

Long tongues like Butterflies built that way for getting to nectar.

Heck, I didn't even know they have tongues. Nice capture, buddy.

Wonderful shots, Bob!! I just love it when they do this and you were very quick to capture that little tongue flitting out!!

That's no tongue that's a vacuum hose! Great shot Bob, I haven't seen those blue ones out my way.

EM, just curious if you have hummingbirds in Australia, I can't remember anyone ever posting from there?

I hadn't really noticed their tongues unless they were in the feeders, this was the first I had seen just sitting. maybe he was just sticking his tongue out at me Lori.

yeah CC, you get a dozen of these guys and they drain a feeder in a day.

Larry, I got that color from the luminance of the feathers, I think the feathers are actually black or dark.

It was a hot day Tess, probably just cooling off, sort of like when your puppies start panting.
