from our travels, Monument Valley is located on Navajo Tribal lands, you can either take a guided tour of the area or use your own vehicle to travel the 17 mile dirt road traversing the park.

Trev, just curious if the John Ford/John Wayne westerns were popular in Australia?

Most impressive, we have nothing quite like this down under. There are one or two places with similar geology in western Queensland and we do have a solitary pillar in central Australia but the scale of these sculptures is unique. Another place on my bucket list

Bruce, hard to give a good perspective on the size of the formations, but that is a 2 lane dirt road going across the desert.

Are you kidding, John Wayne is one of mine and Annie's all time favorite stars. John Ford not so much but still well known. We get most of the the American movies. Love the stage coach shot. It was posted as I was posting my post.

Didn't they film 'The Searchers' with John Wayne there?

they sure did Will, John Ford loved Monument Valley. There is a great museum at Gouldings where we camp telling about all of the movies made in the area.

I didn't know for sure, the stagecoach is at Gouldings, they have movie posters in the museum of all the movies.
