Northern Saw-whet Owls
Lens: Pentax 70 mm f2.4 DA LTD Camera: Pentax K5 IIs Photo Location: Fifty Point Conservation Area
Posted By: fotogaffer, 11-18-2012, 07:20 PM

I came across a couple of Northern Saw-whet Owls while out on a nice day today. I managed to capture these photos with the DA 70mm since they were perched so low on the pines. It was lucky I had this lens along, since I went out with more telephoto in mind for the day, shooting mostly with the Pentax 300mm. That's what I love about the DA LTDs. They are just so easy to have in the kit for those - "just in case moments!"

I believe this is the same very small owl we saw in the state of Washington. Great capture, the one we saw was quite timid and flew deeper into the tree. The 70mm is a great lens, one of my favorite along with the 43mm.

Oh man, thats some great shots. Crisp, sharp, beautiful bird, and the blur really makes it look dreamy.
