Wow, nice shot. I've seen it a couple of times, but never swirling like this

Was this by hand or on a tripod? I had a camera once but no tripod, and it didn't turn out great

Hello, and thank you! Yes I use a tripod and cable release switch! It can be done handheld, but it requires high ISO and a strong northern lights! And a good portion of luck!

Awesome shot of an intense aurora. This is better than a lot of shots I see on astronomy forums and published in books and on astronomy calendars.

@fotogaffer, thank you very much!! @jnguyen, ISO was 3200 f2.8 and 3.2sec! @GeoJerry, I guess you have to travel to Alaska then!?
