My new $35.00 lens!
Lens: Vivitar 135 f/2.8 Camera: K5 Photo Location: South Algonquin, Ontario
Posted By: tessfully, 11-19-2012, 01:45 PM

Woohoo! This is the first lens I actually purchased on my own. A forum member had it listed for $35.00 and it is a prime 135mm and I thought to myself, self, you know you like primes, so why not give it a shot, and I did! After a day of fiddling around, trying to figure out how this manual lens works on a K-5, I finally got the hang of it... and... I love it!!!!! (Thanks Gareth!)

Here are a random selection of photos from today and yesterday. All manually set and focussed... What do you think?

A very strange fungus
ISO 800, f/5.6 1/100

Old garbage in the woods
ISO 400 f/8 1/100

A funny pot
ISO 100 f/5.6 1/500

My favourite subjects
Tripper ISO 800 f/8 1/400

Kenzie ISO 1600 f/8 1/160

and with the TC, it automatically focuses with the teleconverter on, but the results are very mixed with lots of flaring and purple fringing... the Vivitar is much better on its own
ISO 400 f/8 1/35

I think you could use a broken bottle and have great captures. I'll give you $40 for the lens, lol.

Excellent work with that new lens. Something about fixed focal length brings out the challenge.

Nice! At the scale of my computer monitor I can't see much difference in image quality between these image and the others you've been posting on here before. Quite a bargain!

It is certainly producing clear sharp images worthy of the K-5.

I have this lens, too, as soon as my M42 adapter arrives I will be putting it through its paces. Not, of course, as beautifully as Tess has done with hers (thanks for these beauties!), but I'm looking forward to trying it out!

Thanks, Tess! Inspirational!

(oops, I mis-read, mine is an SMC Takumar 135mm)

Very nice shots Tess. I don't have a 135 prime, maybe I should look around on ebay for one.

Tess, I don't know if it's the lens or your talent, but those photos are great!

OK Tess, you've brought this $35 beauty to life here.
Fantastic results. Excellent colour, crisp sharpness and lovely bokeh.
Congrats and thanks for sharing.
