Sulphur Crested Cockatoo - K-5iis
Posted By: RobG, 12-01-2012, 12:30 AM

I didn't have to go far for these - the Cockatoos were feeding on plums and (I think) apricots in the back yard. I love the combination of the K-5iis and the DA55-300.

They've come up exceptionally sharp and detailed so looks like that new camera of yours is certainly living up to it's reputation.

It sure is! I'm kind of kicking myself for not buying a DA*300 with the black friday sale, but I had a bunch of other expenses at the time. Still, I'm very happy with the results using the DA16-45, DA35 limited and DA55-300. I should try the mirror lens again, especially with something like the moon. I'd love to see what detail it shows up using the K-5iis.

Thanks John! IMO the DA55-300 is the best value Pentax lens. It's light and impressively sharp for the price. With the DA16-45 it gives me 16-300 in only two lenses which is great for travelling.

A very nice pic, Rob. We have a lot of cockies and galahs around here and I've been intending to get out to try shooting them.

I hope it's cooler tomorrow - 37 deg C here in Penrith.

I've got a blizzard here with wind-chill of -32C. Haven't seen one cockatoo all morning but it's keeping the mosquitoes at bay. Nice pics!

They're white, you won't see them in the snow!

Happily it hasn't got over 37C yet this summer in Canberra but I believe you've already had 40C in Penrith. Today I see it's much cooler in Sydney. Not bad here - although I note we've already exceeded the expected maximum of 27C.

Thanks! I imagine the mozzies are all neatly frozen now?

Thanks Susan! I'm really happy with it too!

Thanks Bruce! I just wish they didn't amuse themselves by pulling the rubber linings out of street lights and chewing through TV antenna cables.
I'd rather have Ozzie native birds than starlings, sparrows and Indian Mynahs any day.

Good point! You could have a massive White Cockatoo invasion going on and be unaware of it!

Amazing - great job. I know nothing about the new K-5iis, but it's clear the photographer has got chops.
