Gay Married in Seattle :D
Posted By: Ecaterin, 12-10-2012, 11:31 AM

Yesterday, I was privileged to spend the afternoon at the massive Gay Marriage event thrown by Seattle City Hall. It was amazing to hear each couple called out and hear that so many of them had been waiting 10, 20, 30 even 43 years to have the right to marry. Forty Three Years. Wow.

I know that over 150 couples were married, but I couldn't stay for the whole thing - I was woefully under dressed for the event

This was the most concentrated photographic JOY I'll undoubtedly ever get to photograph and I'll never forget it. Here are some highlight photos, but I have the story of the day and a huge photo essay post on my Blog - please go enjoy the whole sheebang

And those of you in Washington State who helped make this happen with your votes and love - you are the awesome-est

Great set
You captured the joy and elation wonderfully on #8 Also great job on your blog

OK, I am going to get killed for this, but I don't know if I like the red rose with the B&W ladies. It's a little distracting to me, especially because it is off to one side and takes the eye off the ladies.
But that is one tiny niggle in a set that made me smile

Those guys...man, that photo - such an awesome moment

LOL - yeah, selective color is a love/hate technique for a lot of people. The way I look at selective color technique is as a way to get the viewer's eye to take a journey. The eye automatically snaps to the faces in any photo - the hindbrain says to! Selective color gives the photographer an opportunity to pull your eye around a bit, to point up "this is part of why the faces in this photo say what they say." It's blatantly distracting....and either that works for the viewer or it doesn't! And I'm never offended when people happen not to like it

I love selective color - the moment I saw this photo in RAW, I knew what I was going to do with it.

The rose became a symbol for the day on Sunday, too, so this photo is also commenting on that in its way

Years ago I swore I'd never shoot another wedding. I would make an exception for an event like this. May they all find the married happiness with each other that they've been so long denied.

Beautiful, Ecaterin. Just wish it had happened a couple of years ago. I had a staff member, one of my managers, whose partner was from Seattle. They were set to marry but it didn't work out. Her partner didn't want to leave the States for Canada and didn't want the stress of being legally married here in a marriage that wasn't recognized there. I even offerred to perform the marriage up here but ...
As I understand it, my staffer's partner moved on to a new relationship. I can only hope that she was in your group or will be soon. God bless them all.

Yay! Sadly I live in North Carolina where we lost our fight against Amendment 1. Now domestic partnerships are not recognized therefore as a woman, if I had an abusive boyfriend, it would not be "domestic violence" but "assault".

it a good documentary journal of the day. it's just another area where the government had no business making choices for individuals - nice to see so many happy faces.
