Posted By: D4rknezz, 12-10-2012, 11:45 PM

Alright guys!
Here is the game : The following two pictures were taken by yours truly, one with the venerable k5 50-135 2.8, the other one with the much louded D800E 24-70 2.8
Make your guesses! Dont ruin it for anyone else though! Which was which?
1. Make your guess
2. Click through to see Exif
3. post (if you want) with your impression - whether you were right or wrong - without ruining it for the other people...who may or may not be interested in this thread. Lol. Was the result to your expectation? Did you get it right? did you get it wrong?

Have fun
Oh...CC welcome

I actually like the DoF treatment better in the second. In the first it's out of focus, just enough to be irritating, not enough to add something to the picture. I like the fact that the sofa is in focus in the second. It lets my eye wander in a natural fashion, and lets me explore the scene, just as I would if I were there,

I like the light better in #1, but overall #2 is a better image for me. FWIW, I think the scenes are too different for any meaningful comparison. Besides the large obvious lighting differences, the global contrast curve in #2 seems a lot steeper and I don't believe that is only caused by the sensor size.

I agree with the perspective that its not a very meaningful comparison . Just to show how a nice scene can be taken with either camera with result that divides the board in terms of what looks nicer.
And this is why my K5 isnt out for pasture yet even when doing work .

Personally though,

I liked the second image (k5), better. The gradation of the tonal range? Is what made me like it, that shadow that I thought defines the feature of the actors involved. I was surprised to see a clear identification by members of the board of the D800E images, and for some, because the first image was more pleasing.

Next time I'll keep the settings kind of similar (lens wise, aperture, shutter speed), but I doubt I'll keep the exact same pose with a tripod etc...I think there are better equipped technicians to do that (dpreview and other people), i like both cameras and like to demonstrate that the difference isnt so alarmingly huge in terms of image quality and the naked eye - for a general purpose usage anyway :0 - and not blowing this up the size of the new york tower. (is there such a building? >_<)
