Spotted this beastie in the garden late this evening. Handheld at about 1 metre with off camera flash. Focusing was a bit of guesswork.

Wow, tough shots... I didn't think I would enjoy looking at an image of a cockroach, but here I am enjoying the view The grass blade detail and drops of water really add to the image. The colours of the roach are surprising. Awesome job Bruce!

I suspect it is a native to Australia very similar to the "White Edged Cockroach" Esperance Fauna: Drymaplaneta species – Blattidae - White-edged Cockroach and not one of the pest species. Still I suspect my wife would not make it welcome in the house.

I would have loved to get a better look at it and more time to get a better image but it very quickly scuttled back into the shrubbery. I guess it did not like the flash very much.
