Around the town with the Bigma.
Lens: 50-500 Sigma Camera: K5 Photo Location: Around Saugus ISO: 800 Aperture: F8
Posted By: charliezap, 12-20-2012, 03:00 PM

I spent a couple of hours around town with the Bigma. All shots were hand held at 800 ISO with Aperture priority at around f/9. The day was mostly cloudy. The optical stabilizer (OS) works really well and at the end of the shoot my arms were aching from the weight of this beast. I'm still learning this lens and I give today's results a solid B-plus as I don't know what it can fully perform like.--charliezap

Capn, that sure is a big brute with what appears to me to be excellent performance. Pics look great; enjoy it, my friend.

One thing I noticed with the Bigma is that my replacement battery for the K5 which is slightly less powerful than a Pentax battery will focus but will not trip the shutter. The Pentax battery works great and the replacement battery works well on all my other lenses.Any thoughts?--charliezap

That is interesting information. I have 3 Pentax and one off brand, I'll let you know how mine works when I get it next week.

Just put it in your pocket between shots.

Amazing reach and I love the compression effect in #4 and #5.

This really doesn't look like a convenient lens to use for handhelds Charlie, I can just see myself bumping into something as I carry it around. You'll have it mastered soon I would imagine and we will be seeing Bigma Bubble pics this summer.

So when you are walking around the city with this piece of kit, do people treat you differently?

Awesome shots

I'm going to try some tripod shots later but the OS is supposed to be shut off when doing that.I'm still going up the learning curve.--charliezap
