Selective focus fun
Lens: Pentax 50mm 1.7 + Tamron 90mm macro Camera: K-5 Photo Location: South Algonquin, Ontario
Posted By: tessfully, 12-21-2012, 06:57 AM

Last week there was a competition for selective focus. Here are some of the shots I produced.

Peeping through a hole in the backlit snow --- for some reason I really like this! (taken with the Tamron 90 @ f/5.6)

I took many shots like this... these next three on a dreary day with the 50mm -- @ f/1.7

I just love the bokeh produced by this 50mm lens

I went out to try again with the 50mm, this time with more light --- @ f/1.7

After much agonizing I ended up entering this one, taken with the Tamron 90 macro. @ f/2.8

thanks for having a look

I absolutely LOVE that 5th one... the "What's my ball doing on mommy's tripod? Should I touch it?" Priceless!

you're never afraid to experiment and post the results and that is a huge benefit for the forum. I enjoyed all of the photos, got me thinking again.

Not so taken with the selective focus image - I think my mind is too limited to be engaged without more information. However, I find #'s 3, 4, and 7 quite engaging. I like #2, 5, and 6 a lot, but that's because I'm quite partial to dogs. Are there two or three? All yours, I presume.
Thanks for sharing.

I can't pick a favorite as they all have that wow quality. I love the dog shots, but also I love drops and macros. Well done.

Nice shots! #1, #4, and the last really work well for me, especially #4. I might have to get that 50 mm.

Nicely done Tess - those balls on a tripod are priceless , I might have entered #2 that's my favorite albeit it's more blurred background than selective focus still my favorite shot of the bunch.

Ah, I see now. No wonder you were ambivalent as to which one to enter.
Lovely series, much to see and enjoy. As a Border Collie owner, your dog images are precious.
Still, like the last one the best.
Anyways, best wishes to you and yours in this season.

Thanks Hockey Dad, ya, that one says it all. She was like a "pop goes the weasel" ... up down up down... I actually have a shot of her gently licking the ball off the tripod. She is a very smart Border Collie. The one in behind just sits and waits for her to do all the work!

Thanks jford! Yes three dogs in my pack. One is quite old, the other two are young border collies.

Thanks Jerry, you and I share similar tastes with regards to shots like number 4. That lens is a lot of fun but prone to purple fringing, so I have to take care on the how I shoot within certain light. But no other lens I have gives this type of bokeh.
