Unbelievable work....
Posted By: Eaglerapids, 02-16-2008, 08:03 PM

There is this old man that lives here in town who does carvings. He's done four corbels for some people whose house we have made the cabinets. This guy is about 75 years old and he works on his own schedule:-). He's entitled to. He's done stuff for us before but when he brought these in all our mouths dropped open.
I only wish I could have done a better job photographing them. This "product" photography is tough! ANY light on these babies seems to blow out something, I've had a hard time getting this close. I hauled all my stuff to the shop again today because I didn't like what I did yesterday evening when I did the first batch of pictures. This photo isn't really finished but I wanted to share this guy's work, this is the wolf and there is also a bear, a moose, and an elk.

Oh yeah.....the animals ARE NOT carved separately and then placed in, they are carved in place from the original block of wood.

Ok, here's the elk. The antlers were an add on.

BTW, the pictures, so far, were taken with the FA 50/1.4

It is amazing to see craftsmanship of this quality anymore. What does one pay for work like that?

Igilligan, I'll check with my boss Monday to make sure, but I think they were sold for around $2000 apiece.

Great work! When I was building cabinets/furniture, we would sometimes order hand carved corbels for some of the pieces. It makes a world of difference in the finished product versus the plain versions.
