Shasta at Sunset
Lens: Tamron Adaptall 23A Camera: K5 Photo Location: Cottonwood, CA USA
Posted By: WillH, 12-29-2012, 06:01 PM

Was looking out the window and saw the ole' mountain coloring up at sunset. Just had to get a shot! Snapped on the 23A, grabbed the tripod and stepped outside to take this picture! This is as close to actual as I could make it! Had to stop the aperture down a touch to get it just right! It's very close! Anyhoo, made my day! I never tire of looking at that chunk of rock!

BTW, The blurry stuff at the bottom is my attempt to remove a damn power line!

Oh my God, that is fantastic! I can't imagine looking out a window at this! Great shot (almost as good as the radio ;-).. )! Thank you!

Well....! From my house it's 90 Miles away! Remember the lens is 300mm times 1.5 for the sensor! But that's the way it looked just a bit smaller! It's an impressive volcano, but then I'm prejudice too

Thanks all, Bob, SpecialK, Ed N Gerogia! I look at all the wonderful photos posted here by you all, it's almost shameful all I can offer is a meager photo of Mt. Shasta! She's a grand volcano and I tried very hard to capture the image as accurately as possible - she doesn't need much enhancement Glad you all enjoy her sunset!

that's a great shot Will, I admire your conviction to shoot & PP it as it appeared rather than tiss it up a little, looks very natural for that time of day.
cheers

Everyone has their "thing!" and mine is to record the actual to very best of my ability. I crop some and sharpen a bit if it helps tell the tail. Also tried to remove the darn power line that feeds power to our pumps.......made a proper mess of that. My goal is to match what my eyes see!

Hey Julie, you are very observant! The smaller volcano at the left side (West) of Mt. Shasta proper is called "Shastina". Shastina has a small lake in it's crater and is very much a volcano of it's own. The little peak is the top that sank into the crater during it's last eruption! There's also a third volcano called Black Butte, which isn't visible. Busy place a few hundred year ago!
Here's another view (taken in August) that shows Shastina from a slightly different angle.
